As Plato said: Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it, I strongly stand against the motion that developing countries should not waste money on sports.

First of all according to me the word " wasting" is termed when something is done without benefit. Contribution to sports is not wasting but beneficial investing. As we all know that for a strong country it is very essential to have a strong and healthy population and the best way to have a healthy population is the encouragement of sports. A country is like a human body. For a human body to be working efficiently , requires both mental and physical fitness. Similarly for a country too it requires both ----- A good mind and a good body. Hosting sport events brings name and fame to the country for its spirited winners.

If a country denies to contribute for sports then the population of that country is much weaker than a country who contributes in sports whether developing or developed. If a developing country hosts a sports event then it encourages the sports lovers who inspire millions to come into the field. Money is not the most important factor for a economy the most important resource for the country is its human resource. So any country be it developed or developing should first think of the interest of its human resource . The main aim for a developing country is to become a developed one and this is only possible when the country has a healthy economy . Hosting sport events also attract a number of tourists which contribute to the national income helping to strengthen the economy. When a developing country hosts a sport event then it also brings new experiences and ways for different things which maybe unknown to the country through globalization. This helps the country to adopt new styles and techniques and hence heritage of the country. Hosting a sport event by a developing country will also prove that inspite of their low economic value they are no way backward in case of Human development and globalization and will also inspire the poor nations to come forward and contribute.

By hosting a sport event the developing countries should not feel that they are wasting money but doing something for the betterment of the country. A country can only become developed when it is fit from all aspectand it is the aim of every developing country to achieve the goal of being developed. Success isn't a result of spontaneous combustion. To achieve success one must set oneself on fire. Contribution in any kind of field for the betterment of the population always leads to prosperity . Since developing countries lack something or the other than the developed countries hosting sport events will just prove that although they mite not be rich in everything but they have the urge to aim higher. As Francis Bacon says The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs.

Yes. You are absolutely right. I am studying in Singapore right now and I have been involved so much in sports activities that I can now clearly see and appreciate the benefits it brings to the society as a whole. To add to your very well written article, it is not only about the national pride or showing someone that we can do it. It is about how we are leading our lives. Is it like hogging all the day in a room in front of the books or a computer or leading life that we can look back and appreciate what we have done and remember the good times we had. From the point of view of the state and economics, sports helps the state save a lot of their income that would otherwise be spent on healthcare as we all know that even a sporting jock will be healthier and happier and more productive in real life than the person who sogged all day to get the highest marks. Ofcourse performance in work and academics is important. But that in no way should cut us off from the activities that we love to do.

Loved reading your essay. Please do keep writing and doing sports. You know you are doing it right, when you know you are happy.

Take Care,

Anoop Mohan
